New York African Restaurant Week

Experience a curated selection of 25 restaurants participating in Manhattan and Brooklyn, from celebrity-chef owned to neighborhood favorites.

New York African Restaurant Week is the urban festival event, bringing together restaurant owners, chefs, Africa enthusiasts, aesthetes, designers, vendors, and world-class organizations, on a “GastroAfrique Culinary Odyssey” of memorable and iconic events that will draw thousands of savvy travelers and individuals from international communities and surrounding Northeast regions.

New York African Restaurant Week (“NYARW”), taking place October 1st – 22nd this year, is a premier citywide food festival that celebrates the best in African cuisine and culture. Since launching the first New York African Restaurant Week in 2013 with a handful of restaurants and increasing enthusiasm, the event has grown into a 3-week thrilling celebration, with over 25 participating restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn offering discounted prix-fixe traditional African and avant-garde Afro-fusion menus.

In celebration of their 5th anniversary, New York African Restaurant Week (NYARW) 2017 will present over 75 events and experiences that advance the conversation between food and art, culture, technology, entrepreneurship, and social impact.  Events and experiences include: chef-hosted pop-ups and food tours; a food business pitch competition, 21 Days of Free Dinner for Two, round trip airfare giveaways, a mega-food festival event of 5,000+ attendees on Sunday, October 8 at Industry City; cooking classes and wine tastings; art walkthroughs, health and wellness expos,  an international soccer tournament; brunch and “linner” event series, plus much more!

“We are a mission-based festival. We eat good. We do good. Our 2017 focus is combating the inextricable ties between hunger and homelessness and we are proud to announce our 2017 key beneficiaries: Vocal NY and City Harvest.”

In summary, NYARW is a celebration of African cuisine, restaurants, and chefs, it’s a promotion of diverse voices in the global culinary movement – both celebrity and emerging, it’s a commitment to community development and social impact, and we’re inviting all of NYC to be a part of that.
